Some of you may remember, have heard or maybe even met Cayman Rose. We have posted some of her earlier pictures in our Photo Gallery. Her proud grand parents are owners at The Reef and staying with us this week. They brought some new pictures for us to see….isn’t she cute? Jan & Steve say: “Our darling granddaughter, Cayman Rose Lightner, just had her first bite of ravioli. Clearly, ravioli just hit her top ten list. Cayman’s mom & dad, Sara & Jamie, got engaged in 2004 right on the dance floor in front of the Barefoot man. Cayman has been to the Reef twice. She loves watching John feed the big fish off the dock at noon.”
How about Mardi Gras on the beach…
Kaibo hosts their 7th annual Mardi Gras Celebrations on the east side of the island (about 20 min drive from The Reef Resort)
This year’s high light is Lady Precise, a vocalist and freestyle performer out of Vancouver, next to local Rock Band Ratskyn and DJ Presser and DJ Johnny G, who are Mardi Gras alums and many more. And of course food & drinks in Mardi Gras style are offerd all day for this event from midday to midnight.
If you missed it this year, plan for next years celebration, every year on Ash Wednesday, which by the way is a public holiday in the Caymans.
The latest update on the strip mall across from the resort is – to be opened in April.
A definite addition to this side of the island will be the Foster’s Supermarket with groceries and other items.
If you are arriving in April/May please check with our concierge team on the progress otherwise we recommend on doing your grocery shopping in George Town/near airport.
You may stop at Foster’s Foodfair or Hurley’s Supermarket conveniently located on your way to The Reef.
For everybody who was wondering how Tini & Cosmo have been doing, …please look for yourself. They are well and back together. Tini had four beautiful kittens back in December and spent several weeks at the Humane Society in George Town. The volunteers there are doing a fantastic job for homeless cats & dogs on the island and Tini and her offspring were very well taken care of as it would have been difficult to guarantee their safety around the resort while nursing. They were visited often by Linda, Patricia and myself. Unfortunately one kittens was lost to a virus, but Patricia, our Human Recourses Manager actually decided to adopt two of Tini’s little ones and the third one also got adopted. Siblings Tini & Cosmo got both neutered/spayed and are now happy to be back together at The Reef as you can see. They are looking forward to your visit
The Cayman Art Festival started off with an excellent show.
Cayman got to see a great performance of the world famous Harlem Gospel Choir at the First Babtist Church in George Town.
I had seen them several years ago in my hometown in Germany and would go to see them again at any time. The atmosphere was great, they had everybody off their seats.
If you are interested have a look at their official website www.harlemgospelchoir.com for their tour plan.
After the show they were also available for autographs and questions.
The Department Of Tourism brought some sunshine to cold Boston and last week’s Vacation Outlet’s Travel Expo. Together with several Caribbean islands, Mexico, Europe and many more exhibitors the vacation spirit was high. The show attracted several thousand visitors to give them ideas about their next holiday destination.
The Cayman team of six (represented by the Department Of Tourism, Cayman Airways, The Marriott and The Reef Resort) answered 1000′s of questions regarding the islands, diving, flights, the hotels and many many more. Cayman Airways is also offering again non-stop flights from Boston to Grand Cayman.
Many visitors used the great offers and booked their next trip directly at the show.
And to all who visited us at the booth – thanks for stopping by and we look forward to seeing you soon in Cayman.
This is Sara & Jamie’s story and it started almost two years ago with a romantic dinner at a Barefoot Man night (click here for the pictures). Jamie proposed to Sara that night and of course – she said YES!
The romance continues and they reported a new arrival to this planet – little ‘Cayman Rose’ was born in November 2005.
All the staff of The Reef congratulates and looks forward to seeing you three in March at The Reef!
Have you thought about hiring a car to explore the island yourself? If you would like some assistance with your car rental arrangments make sure you let our concierge team know. There are many beautiful hidden spots you may not know about yet
Peter Ponzo, one of our dedicated owners, did some research on the web before coming back to The Reef tomorrow to enjoy his Holidays with us.
Have a look at these great satellite pictures of Grand Cayman and The Reef.
Thank you Peter, it is nice to know that our owners and guests remember The Reef even when not on island We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.
American Thanksgiving will be celebrated in homes & restaurants island wide and our own Castro’s Hideaway is already reporting a sold out Thanksgiving Buffet with the Barefoot Man for tomorrow evening!
We are giving thanks for Cayman’s fast recovery and great progress after last year’s devastating hurricane and to all who helped speeding up the process. We wish our owners, guests and friends an enjoyable holiday with friends and family and look forward to seeing you all again soon!
Certainly there are many things to do, from kayak tours to nature walks and the must-do trip to Stingray City of course….but what would a vacation in the Caribbean be without (at least) a day at our beautiful beach…..? Let your children build sand castles – or how about a sand castle competition the next time you visit us??
For everybody who joined us for our special Pirate’s Week dinner earlier this month (and of course for all who missed it) – you can now view the pictures in our online photo gallery http://www.thereef.com.ky/index/CIDgallery/PGNgallery-start
As you can see, we had a blast
Sunday, 13 November the Cayman Islands joined nations around the world in the annual tribute to those who defended their countries during times of war. Ceremonies honouring veterans, including those who sacrificed their lives, took place on Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac in the annual Remembrance Day services.
Weather report for today’s holiday: lots of sunshine with a cooling breeze
It’s a rainy day in the Caymans, but this won’t stop us from having fun.
While Hurricane Wilma is moving out of our area, Grand Cayman is experiencing mild to heavy rain fall and winds of around 25-35mph.
To keep our guests and owners entertained, Leona our Activities Coordinator is preparing for a fun filled afternoon in the restaurant. On her schedule is Karaoke ‘Singing in the rain’, Bingo and of course – free Rum Punch!!!
If that doesn’t chase away the rainy day blues – we don’t know what will!
A very busy maintenance week 2005 at The Reef comes to an end. Most of our staff members plus an additional group of cleaners were busy deep cleaning all the units, the restaurant & beach bar, painting the interior and exterior of the resort, servicing all electrical appliances and lots more. Also, some of us were in the office covering phones and emails.
Alone Castro took it easy, laid back and enjoyed having his ‘living room’ cleaned and his wings scratched afterwards
Now everybody is looking forward to our Staff Appreciation Party this afternoon and we will make sure to tell you about it!
We have received several emails from concerned friends owners of The Reef, so we want to let you all know that Hurricane Rita passed several hundred miles to the North of Grand Cayman so had no direct impact on us apart from little rain early this morning.
We are, however, thinking of all of our friends in the Gulf region, both those who were impacted by Katrina and those who are now bracing for Rita. We wish you all the best, stay safe!
